Please read the following notes:
This is a Dhamma talk given by Ajahn Maha Bua and translated into English by Bhikkhu Dick Sīlaratano.
But this eBook is not based on the original version. Instead, I used ChatGPT to simplify the meaning of the teachings and translate most of the Pali words used in the original version into English. However, I have retained some Pali words such as Citta, Nibbana, Samsara, and others.
The most important aspect of this teaching is the removal and elimination of all kilesas from the mind. In this eBook, kilesas have been translated as mental defilements. Therefore, whenever you read the term mental defilements, it refers to kilesas.
Kilesas are mental defilements caused primarily by the three unwholesome roots, which are greed, hatred, and delusion that cloud the mind from the truth.
Another important term is Citta. Citta refers to both the True Mind and the Fake Mind. When Citta refers to the one that still has kilesas, it is referring to the Fake Mind. When Citta refers to the one that has no kilesas, it is referring to the True Mind, which is pure and bright.
If you encounter any monks from any Theravada monasteries, please print this eBook and give it to them. They are unlike lay practitioners such as you and me, who can easily surf the internet and find Dhamma eBooks, some monks may not have the same access to such resources.
This eBook teaches Theravada practitioners how to attain Arahantship. It is based on the actual experiences of Ajahn Maha Bua, who successfully attained Arahantship and Nibbana. This eBook is an extremely rare and extremely precious teaching. As Buddhists, we should all cherish this eBook and never underestimate the insight and wisdom found in it.
Although I am a Mahayana Buddhist practitioner, I still study the Hinayana teachings (Theravada) because anyone who cultivates the Bodhisattva path must first become an Arhat before truly becoming a Bodhisattva, and only then can one finally attain Buddhahood. Even those who practice the Pure Land Buddhism Dharma Door must first become an Arhat at Western Pure Land before they can choose whether to continue cultivating the Bodhisattva path or not. That is why the teachings of Ajahn Maha Bua are very important to every practitioners. He is the only forest monk that I know of who attained Arahantship in the modern world.
